Forestry

Buying and selling forestry, with nothing left to chance.

We act for forestry companies and individuals on purchases and sales of forestry throughout Scotland.

Buying and selling forestry

Hall Baird act for both forestry companies and individuals. Some aspects of buying forestry are similar to other property purchases, but there are additional questions that need answers before you commit.

The forestry questions we ask

  1. 01Has the forest been planted with the benefit of any grants, what conditions attach to them, and are any obligations outstanding?
  2. 02Does the forest have the benefit of a current forest plan?
  3. 03Have any felling licences been granted, and are there outstanding obligations?
  4. 04Is the timber certified?
  5. 05What forms are required to transfer any remaining grant payments?

It is also important to consider whether any constraints affect the land that would affect grant applications, planting, felling, or subsequent timber extraction.

Our solicitors have bought and sold forestry all over Scotland.

Forestry and land reform

David's article on what Scotland's Land Reform Act may mean for forest owners was published in Confor's Forestry & Timber News (2016, issue 75). Its conclusion: the spectre of land reform should not be taken as a discouragement to forestry investment in Scotland.
